This is me being completely open:
I’ve always wanted to be interviewed about a book I’ve published, so today, I’m interviewing myself!😌
✨First, a teaser:
Interviewer: First of all, congratulations on publishing your book! How does it feel to finally see your work out in the world?
Me: First of all, thank you so much! Second, it’s not ‘out in the world’ yet, but someday I hope for it be. I feel shocked, excited and proud of myself. I feel gooooddd! Thank you Lord, honestly.
Interviewer: Marshall is such an intriguing character. What was the hardest part about writing him?
Me: his stutter honestly 😂 It was a lot trying to write like that. It was tough honestly, especially the days I felt discouraged. I wanted to capture an individual with a dark and traumatic experience, which was also hard for me considering the fact that I had never met anyone like that. Marshall represents a scared little boy in a man’s body, I wanted to emphasize how simple someone could look on the outside but really is a wreck on the inside.
Interviewer: Did you have a favorite scene to write? One that really stuck with you even after finishing the book?
Me: the ending…I just needed a twist. I can’t say too much concerning this.
Interviewer: Many writers say they see parts of themselves in their characters. Do you relate to Rhoda in any way?
Me: Honestly? Not really. Rhoda is tough, I don’t think I’m as tough as her. Her mind is a bit complex. She’s also a hard nut to crack. She believes she can be her own independent woman, solving her own problems but really, she isn’t very different from Marshall.
Interviewer: Every book has a story behind the story. What inspired you to write this one?
Me: I noticed, most of the time, people tend to overlook certain mental illnesses. There are so many out there that we don’t even know about. So many people are walking about with a particular mental illness, however many don’t know this. I wrote ‘Saving Marshall’, to create such awareness of one out of thousands. Not all are roaming on the streets.
Interviewer: Finally, where can people buy your book, and how can they stay connected with you?
Me: I’m super excited for you all to read this and as regards the purchase, you can get your copy of the e book and hard copy as soon as it’s available in May! Just in case you would like to share your thoughts with me concerning the book, you can slide into my dm here on Substack or send a personal message to the author here: feranmiayogeorge14@gmail.com
